Description:
The Intermediate School District 917 DASH program provides special education services for students with developmental cognitive disabilities, physical impairments, special health conditions, and autism spectrum disorders. Services are provided in classroom settings located within regular elementary and secondary schools throughout Dakota County. Students participate in mainstream classes and school activities as determined by their IEPs. The program provides individualized instruction with a high degree of staff support and opportunities for each student to achieve his or her maximum level of independence. The curriculum focuses on functional areas, such as communication, social skills, independent living, functional academics, community participation, vocational preparation, and recreation and leisure. Assistive technology is utilized throughout all program components.
Support Services:
Specialized services are available to meet the individual education needs of each learner in the DASH program. Related service teachers and therapists provide expertise in health and safety, motor development, occupational therapy, speech and language, behavior management, psychology, vision, audiology, assistive technology, and autism spectrum disorders. Working under the direction of a Intermediate School District 917 licensed school nurse, a full-time health associate (RN or LPN) is employed in each DASH classroom.
